MX records

MX records identify the mail servers configured to receive email for a domain. Their presence indicates that the domain has a mail delivery configuration.

SPF

SPF allows a domain to publish information about which mail systems are authorized to send email on its behalf. It is one component of email authentication.

DMARC

DMARC provides domain owners with a policy for handling messages that do not pass applicable email authentication checks and can help reduce certain forms of domain impersonation.

What the result cannot prove

How to interpret email authentication signals

Email safety checks help explain whether a domain publishes records that support legitimate mail delivery and reduce some forms of email impersonation.

What the records mean

MX, SPF and DMARC records describe how a domain receives mail and how receiving systems may evaluate messages claiming to come from that domain.

How to use the result

Use technical records with the full message context. Check sender and reply-to addresses, inspect unexpected links and independently verify high-risk requests.

Important limitation

Email authentication does not make every message safe. A compromised legitimate account or a convincing social-engineering message can still be dangerous.

Example: an email that looks genuine at first glance

A message may use a familiar logo and convincing signature but still ask you to open a link urgently. Compare the sender domain, reply-to address, authentication indicators and destination URL before acting. When uncertain, contact the organisation through a known address.
